When fire accidents happen in schools, most students run to save themselves. Others run back to help their friends.

That was Cecilia Wanjiku, a Form Four student from Kambi Somali.

Cecilia was a bright and promising scholar. She scored 399 marks in her KCPE at Gilgil Highway Primary School. She later joined Karima Girls before moving to Utumishi Girls, where she continued to excel. A proud NGCDF scholar, she was among the top students in Sciences, consistently strong with her lowest grade being a B+. She had also been selected to represent her school in a biology contest at Amref University on June 6th.

Her future looked extremely bright.

But during the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls dormitory, Cecilia showed extraordinary courage. According to fellow students, she lost her life while trying to save others, going back to help her schoolmates instead of escaping to safety.

In her final moments, she is remembered for her calmness, selflessness, and bravery as the fire spread.

Cecilia Wanjiku was a disciplined, high-achieving student whose life was cut short too soon.

She leaves behind her mother, Elizabeth Wanjiru, and her family.

Rest in peace, Cecilia Wanjiku.

Your bravery will not be forgotten.
