Popular gospel artist and politician Paul Waiganjo has quit the Democracy for Citizens Party and declared his support for the UDA candidate ahead of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election scheduled for July 16.

Waiganjo, who came second in the DCP nominations on May 9 with 4,978 votes, announced his exit on Thursday citing alleged irregularities in the nomination process, including claims that people were ferried from outside the constituency to vote.

He has since aligned with UDA's Samuel Muchina Nyagah and described Ol Kalou as a "UDA zone," saying he was prioritising development over party loyalty.

Tourism CS Rebecca Miano publicly welcomed him to UDA, calling the move a step toward progress and development in the constituency.

The defection is seen as a fresh blow to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's DCP in the Mt. Kenya region. The Ol Kalou seat fell vacant following the death of MP David Kiaraho, and the by-election is shaping up as a key test of political loyalties in the region.
